The shrine’s history goes back to a popular legend on Saint Grau from Aurillac who seemed to have lived here during the 9th century. In the 13th century, Maria from Montpellier -mother of the Catalan King Jaume I, the Conqueror- obtained some relics of the Saint for this shrine.
The shrine of Sant Grau is one of Tossa’s iconic places and, every 13th October, the location of a popular fête champêtre.
The building has gone through many different construction and reconstruction periods, but it is worth mentioning the imposing semi-circular apse and the stained glass rose window.
